Microsoft recently bought over Nokia’s Smartphone Division for $7.2 Billion – that is a lot of money $$$. I have mixed emotions regarding Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s smartphone division, not coz I owned part of Nokia or I have Nokia shares but coz of sentimental value.
The first few mobile phone I ever owned was a Nokia 3210 & Nokia 3310 and it served me well for years. I’m sure many of us started with Nokia phones. From there I went to a Sony Ericsson, Motorola, BlackBerry, LG then Samsung and iPhone. Nokia has been leading the cell phone market for years.

Reasons behind Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s smartphone division is that Nokia has fallen behind competitors like Apple and Samsung and Microsoft has been slow into the mobile industry. Thus, this acquisition is a win-win for both Microsoft and Nokia.
Describing the deal as a “big, bold step forward”, Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer sees this deal as the final piece in the jigsaw, in his strategy to turn the software company into a devices and services business.
NOKIA’S DAYS AS A SMARTPHONE BRAND ARE OVER
Nokia says it will now focus on networks, mapping services and technology development and licences. Nokia spokeswoman Tiina Jaatinen said, “As Microsoft, we will continue to produce, sell and support the phones and devices you have come to love, including our award-winning Lumia and Asha ranges, feature phones and the Nokia X family of devices.” The Nokia division will retain separate offices and will be called Microsoft Mobile.
