Day 1 in Hong Kong : Café de Coral (大家樂) @ Sheung Wan
Café de Coral (大家樂) is a leading Chinese fast food chain with over 140 restaurants in Hong Kong 香港.
Just like the Wong Kok Char Teng 旺角茶餐厅 outlets in Malaysia, Cafe de Coral is a cha chaan teng chain serving Chinese food cooked in western style like baked pork chop rice, Hoki fillet, beef brisket curry and etc.
We were slightly touching down in Hong Kong hence right after we settling our luggages, we headed straight to Cafe de Coral at Des Voeux Road Central in Sheung Wan. There are two other Cafe de Coral branches in Sheung Wan 上環 area itself.
Cafe de Coral operates like a fast food chain where diners place their order and pay at the cashier counter before collecting their food at the Food Collection Counter.
Baked Pork Chop with Rice (焗豬扒飯)
The baked pork chop rice consists of a tender Samba thick-cut pork chop covered with rich and smooth tomato gravy, tomatoes and pineapple chunks while the rice is fried with eggs and mixed vegetables like peas, carrots and corn.
Baked pork chop rice is a classic favorite as its one of the popular Hong Kong dishes served at almost all Cha Chaan Teng in Hong Kong. Luckily we didn’t order another dish as the portion are big enough for two people to share.
Verdict: The food is reasonably priced with a variety of choices on the menu. There are many branches around Hong Kong which can be easily located in all major shopping malls and neighborhood in Hong Kong.
Feeling satisfied with our meal at Cafe de Coral, we continued walking around Sheung Wan area.
Sheung Wan 上環 is an interesting area of Hong Kong which gives you a glimpse of the traditional or ‘old’ Hong Kong. Sheung Wan may be close to the busy Central 中環 area but this area is more quiet with many different streets, slopes and narrow alleys making it a pretty interesting area to stroll around.
There are many shops selling dry-goods like bird nest, ginseng, shark fin, Chinese medicine, herbs and etc. in Sheung Wan area.
Graffiti is a common find in Hong Kong and Sheung Wan is a highly popular place for graffiti and street art.
