Road tax expired? Driving license expired? 

Government has announced an extension until 31 May 2021 to renew road tax and driving license.  

My car road tax expired in March and usually I’ll renew a week or two weeks earlier together with my car insurance. This year, like usual I renewed car insurance and car road tax two weeks earlier prior to expiry date online via MyEG. You can also renew your car road tax and driving license at any Pos Malaysia outlets in Malaysia but I prefer to do it online because it’s more convenient and saves time.

I’d usually get my road tax delivered to my doorstep after 2-3 working days but this time, after two weeks of waiting, I still haven’t received my road tax yet! At first, I thought my road tax got lost hence I called MyEG a few times but all my calls were unanswered. I also emailed them worrying about my expired road tax.

Finally, MyEG replied to my email stating that the delay was due to the high volume of road tax renewal orders. I supposed it was because MyEG was closed during the MCO period hence there were a lot of backlog orders.

To date, I still haven’t received my road tax yet. If you’re facing the same issue as me, don’t worry!

The government has just extended the exemption for private vehicle owners to renew their driving licences (LM) and motor vehicle licences or road tax (LKM) from April 1 to May 31. However, drivers must have a valid motor vehicle insurance and are able to present their e-cover notes to traffic enforcement personnel upon request. 

So, please take note that if your driving licence and road tax have expired or will expire between Feb 1 and March 31, you must renew them within 60 days from April 1 to May 31.

You can renew at Pos Malaysia outlets in Malaysia but do it online via MyEG because it’s more convenient and saves you a lot of time. 

What if I haven’t received my road tax from MyEG? Can I still drive out with my expired road tax?

As the government has just announced the extension until 31 May for you to renew your road tax, just make sure you have renewed your car insurance and do bring along your e-cover notes when you’re on the road. (In case if there’s a road block)
