The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has exploded online as a viral phenomenon, prompting new interest and attention towards the ALS disease. ALS, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” is a muscular degenerative disorder that affects the muscle neurons of the body. Eventually, it leads to paralysis, vital organ failure and, in some cases, death.
This social media phenomenon involves dumping a pail of ice cold water over your head and then challenging three other people to do the same within 24 hours. If you do not accept the task, you will have to donate $100 to the ALS Association which fights amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and Mark Zuckerberg have all taken on the ice bucket challenge, unfortunately President Obama turned down Justin Bieber’s nomination but pledged to make a donation.
