Portugese egg tarts is one of Macau’s famous food so it’s one of the MUST TRY when you’re visiting Macau. While the Portugese egg tarts are easily available at almost every bakery and restaurants in Macau, the famous ones are from Lord Stow’s Bakery and Margaret’s Café e Nata.
It took us a while to find Margaret’s Café e Nata 玛嘉烈蛋挞 which is tucked away in a hidden alley within walking distance from the Ruins of St. Paul’s Cathedral and right behind the Grand Lisboa casino. This cafe is supposedly founded by Lord Stow’s ex-wife.
The place was crowded with people and the outdoor tables were all full with patrons enjoying their freshly baked Portugese egg tarts.
There are other pastries, cakes, pizzas, sandwiches and coffee available but the main attraction at Margaret’s Café e Nata 玛嘉烈蛋挞 is definitely the Portugese Egg Tarts.
Margaret’s Portugese Egg Tarts
Margaret’s Portugese Egg Tarts is really awesome. The crust was very flaky and crispy with a strong buttery flavour. The caramelised egg custard was smooth, rich and moderately sweet. Delicious! I was told that Lord Stow’s version is sweeter and more creamy but not so buttery and greasy. I can’t say much coz I din manage to try Lord Stow’s Portugese egg tarts (<.>)
Verdict: Margaret’s Portugese Egg Tart is one of the must try food when you’re visiting Macau. The pastry was flaky with strong buttery flavor while the caramelised egg custard was real smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. Bliss!!! While the egg tarts’ real good, the service on the other hand is really bad. Oh yea, no photography allowed in the cafe.
