My favorite places for pork noodle include Restaurant Pomander (now changed to Ooi Noodle House) at SS15, Ah Or Chu Yuk Fun at Sunway Mentari and Peter’s Pork Noodle at Brickfields to name a few. However, all those places only open from morning till lunch hours. A few days ago, The Wifey wanted pork noodles while I was craving for curry mee for dinner. To satisfy both of us, we headed over to OUG for dinner at Hong Cha Restaurant and Ah Loy Curry Mee Restaurant.
Kedai Makanan Ah Loy 亚来咖哩面冷气饭店 which is located right next to Hong Cha Restaurant is famous for Penang Style Assam Laksa, Curry Laksa & Pork Ribs Curry Mee.
Since Restoran Hong Cha and Kedai Makanan Ah Loy Curry Mee is just next to each other, you can order food from both the restaurants provided you sit outside. We sat outside so that I could order curry mee from neighboring Ah Loy Curry Mee shop 😉
Restoran Hong Cha is a famous restaurant in OUG specializing in pork mee, pork & seafood mee and seafood mee. If you dislike pork noodle, there are other options such as Fish Porridge, Claypot Yee Mee, Claypot Tom Yam and Claypot Tong Fan. Besides noodle, Hong Cha Restaurant also serve a variety of Japanese dishes such as tempura, sushi and maki roll.
The staffs at Hong Cha Pork Noodle uses an iPad to take food order. This will speed up ordering process and minimize waiting time as the restaurant is always very crowded. The owner’s son written an app called “Hong Cha” which is available for download from AppStore.
Dragon Fruit Juice
The wife ordered dragon fruit juice to beat the heat.
Red Bean Ice Blended + Cincau
Hong Cha serves a few variety of ice blended drinks, one of famous is the red bean ice blended. The red bean ice blended reminds me the ice blended drink I had at Dai Shu Geok (Big Tree Foot) Pasir Pinji in Ipoh.
Fried Dumpling
The fried dumplings are tasty and not oily. Makes a good appetizer while waiting for the food to come.
Hong Cha Kun Pork Mee
This is one of their signature dish hence it’s called “Hong Cha Kun Pork Mee”. The noodles are loaded with ingredients like pork slices, minced pork, liver, intestine, squid, prawns, pork lard and choy sum. The broth were quite clear and doesn’t have a strong porky taste like the ones at Ooi Noodle House and Peter’s Pork Noodle. However, the soup at Hong Cha is sweeter because of the seafood.
Pork Ribs Curry Mee
My pork ribs curry comes with generous ingredients such as pork ribs, pork skin, cockles, taufu pok and bean sprouts. The portion was generous and the curry broth has just the right spiciness.
Verdict: Hong Cha Restaurant in OUG is famous for its delicious pork noodles. The pork noodle here is different from other pork noodles as they also add in seafood like squid and small prawns. The soup base is clear and sweet with generous share of ingredients. Unlike other pork stall which is open for breakfast and lunch hours only, Hong Cha opens at night. Hence, this is the place to go to when you wanna have pork noodle for dinner. If you would like to have Hong Cha’s pork noodles for breakfast and lunch, head over to Sun Sea Restaurant (corner shop facing the OUG Morning Market). If you fancy curry mee, head over to Kedai Makanan Ah Loy next door and try their famous Pork Ribs Curry Mee. The broth is thick and has the right level of spiciness.
