Were you shocked over the high electricity bills in recent months? My bill went from RM100 to between RM400 and RM500 every single month *eyes open wide
Crazy or not you tell me?
When the electricity bill arrived, I was shocked to see the figure and quickly ask my friends how much their bill was. Turns out their bill also almost the same as us.
So, what caused my electricity bill to be so high? The weather has been terribly hot and humid these few months that I have to turn on the AC on a more frequent basis 🙁 You know sometimes the temperature can go as high as 37°C! It’s unbearably hot that we have no choice but to switch on the air-conditioner all the time. Yes, it’s all the time!
Aiden in short sleeve and the hot weather outside’s making us sweat. How can we not on the AC?
With the rising cost of electrical bills, it’s good to know and learn some energy saving tips to save us big bucks on our electricity bills and also save our Mother Earth.
Let’s explore and discover some useful energy saving tips:-
1) Replace Old Electrical Appliances with 5 Star Rated Electrical Appliances
In a typical household, air conditioners already consume more electricity than other electrical appliances. The air conditioner in my room is quite old with no energy saving somemore. We always have to switch it on at least 30mins earlier to cool the room first. So it’s really no surprise that our electricity bill is so high!
And so I decided that it’s time to replace it with a new air conditioner. The new 5 star rated air conditioner that has energy savings is not cheap but in the long run we actually save a lot because old electrical appliances will need more power which leads to higher electricity bill.
I chose a 5 star air con as its the most energy efficient air-con which has been tested and certified by the authorities.
2) Clean Air Con Filter and Set Temperature to 24°C
Keeping your AC filters clean can lower your AC unit’s electricity consumption and save money on your monthly electrical bills.
Also, the aircon temperature should be set somewhere between 24°C and 26°C.
3) Close All Windows and Doors
Always make sure that all doors are shut and windows are closed when the AC is turned on as this will save at least 40% of air conditioning load.
4) Switch Off Main Power
It’s a good practice to turn off the main power switch because you can save up to 10% of your total electricity usage at home! Any appliances or device which is in standby mode will still consume electricity.
5) Wash and Dry Full Loads
It’s best to wait for a full basket before washing to avoid wasting water and also save at least 7% of your electricity bill. Want more tips? Wash your clothes using cold water or 30c cycle on the shortest cycle and with the lowest water level.
With these energy saving tips, you can save electricity, save money and most importantly save our Mother Earth! It’s like killing three birds with a stone – so good! Do try all the tips at home and you’ll be surprise at how much you can save – don’t believe me? Just look at your next electricity bill! *winks
