Windows Phone 7 Market Place is not available in Malaysia yet!
While the new operating system Windows Phone 7 could be the most significant for Microsoft since losing the lead in the smartphone market to RIM’s BlackBerry, Apple’s iOS devices and Google’s Android operating system, the local launch was marred by the unavailability of Market Place / Hub that would have made Windows Phone 7 devices in this country more competitive.
Market Place / Hub is where you can try, buy, and search for apps, music, and games from your phone. It’s like AppStore for iPhone, but unfortunately, Market Place is not available in Malaysia yet. So if your Windows Live ID is tied to Malaysia then you will not be able to make full use of your Windows Phone 7, for my case is HTC HD7 from Maxis10 review unit, because of the unavailable of Market Hub.
Why would Microsoft launch this Windows Phone 7 but don’t want to support our country for the Market Place? If it’s not ready then why not wait till the Market Place launched? I’m really disappointed with that. As it is, the missing Marketplace puts Windows Phone 7 at somewhat of a disadvantage, because the smartphone operating system itself has no Twitter application nor an instant messaging client like Windows Live Messenger built in.
To over this disadvantage of not able to access Market Place, I have tried the workaround, which is changing the Windows Live profile country to Singapore and when setup the HTC HD7 also set it to Singapore as the default country. Bingo! By doing this, cheating your country, you will be able to download apps from Market Hub!
On the other hand, for gamers, Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7 is one of its biggest draws, as the feature allows Xbox 360 console users with Xbox Live accounts to log in on Windows Phone 7 to customise their Xbox Avatars and even add to their achievement points for mobile games played on the smartphone. I’m not a gamer myself so I have not actually tested on this.
Marketplace is organized into categories, starting with one that features apps from your mobile operator. You can use these categories to narrow your search and find the details for things that interest you most. For me, I’m looking at all the free apps at the moment before I jailbreak this HTC HD7, will do that in a later stage. =)
View the status of your downloaded items and discover what updates are available for stuff that’s already in your collection.
Important Tip!
Consider using your computer or Wi-Fi to download larger files. This reduces the time it would take if you used a standard connection, and ensures that you don’t go over any limits you may have in your data plan.

WP7 is an ‘unfinished’ OS for me. It does not have Chinese input too. Microsoft needs to work hard and fast to upgrade it. 😉

Hi Ryan,
You need to reset / reformat the phone because there’s no way to remove the existing account.

Ya I was struggling trying to find a way to delete the existing account. So now just have to create a new account? Wouldn’t your bill be very expensive? Since your location is at s’pore but you are in Malaysia? 😀
Ryan. 🙂

Can I ask something? Do you have to pay annual fees for using the marketplace??

There’s an option in to reset, no annual fees, just pay for those paid apps that’s all. =)
