XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 4 DESIGN & FEEL

Review: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (Global Version)

Similar to its predecessor, the front panel of Redmi Note 4 has capacitive navigation buttons below the display and slim borders around it. This smartphone features 2.5D curved glass with an all metal body which is sturdy and give a premium feel.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 - One of the difference between Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 4 is that the speaker grilles of Redmi Note 4 is relocated to the bottom which also houses a Micro-USB port for charging.

At just 8.4mm, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is a slim phone with rounded edges that fits in your palm comfortably.

The Redmi Note 4 features a 5.5-inch full-HD IPS display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels making the display of text and images appearing pretty sharp. The screen size is especially well suited to movie watching and game playing but I reckon it also makes it much easier when you read your emails or reading articles from web pages. It also comes with a Reading Mode which makes the display more comfortable to use while reading.

XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 4 SPECS & FEATURES

The Redmi Note 4 that I’m provided with is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor but there’s another China-only version which is powered by MediaTek Helio X20. There are two variants of this model in Malaysia: 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

It comes with dual SIM tray that holds one Nano-SIM and one Micro-SIM or a microSD card.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes with a non-removable 4100mAh battery which can last me for a whole day. I like the longer battery life coz I don’t have to recharge it so often.

This smartphone is packed with a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), and a dual-tone LED flash.

This smartphone is packed with a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), and a dual-tone LED flash. There is also a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and a fixed-focus lens.

The 13-megapixel rear camera of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 captures nice shots in well-lit environments with accurate colors and image details. However, the photos taken in low-light conditions tend to look grainy. I especially like the PDAF feature which let the camera focus on subjects pretty fast.

As for the 5 megapixel front camera, it captures good shots with nice colors and details but the shots taken in well-lit environments are better than those taken in low-light conditions.

It can also record videos at full-HD (1080p) resolution and quality is pretty decent.

There are various modes for users to choose from the camera app which includes Beautify, Panorama, and Manual. One good point is that you can also apply filters when taking photos.

Below are some of the photos taken by me using the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:-

The Redmi Note 4 runs MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. There are plenty of new features such as Now on Tap, Quick Ball, new Gallery App and more. Among all the new features, the two interesting features are Dual Apps and Second Space.

The Redmi Note 4 runs MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

The Dual Apps feature allows you to use two WhatsApp or Facebook accounts at the same time.

The Second Space enable users to separate business and personal by creating two profiles on the same phone. Hence, you can have two profiles with entirely different home screen and apps.

VERDICT

Having used the Redmi Note 4 for a month, I find that the smartphone scores very well in terms of design, has longer battery life and takes pretty decent shots with its camera. It’s a great option for those who are looking for a mid-range smartphone with a big screen, good battery life and comes with a superb price tag.

So, should you buy the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4?

If you’re looking for a solid smartphone packed with handy features and most importantly affordable, then you can definitely consider getting this Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has been launched in two variants in Malaysia. At a starting price of RM 799 for 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, the Redmi Note 4 is available to purchase on Lazada.

This blog is a platform to share what I love in life: food (eat), travel (play), photography (art) and life (thoughts and ideas). With passion for food, I share my foodie adventures and indulgences here. “There is no love sincerer than the love of food.”

Traveling makes us a better human being as we recognise the similarities and celebrate the differences of cultures between where we travel to and where we come from. “The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”

Photography do more than just capturing the best moments in our lives; they also help us tell our life stories. “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
