Woots! Malaysia’s World No.1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei beat Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana in Malaysia Open Finals at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil. Lee Chong Wei won 21-13, 21-7 in just 35 mins. This was Chong Wei sixth Malaysian Open badminton title. I would say it’s an easy match for Chong Wei and he played with confident and outplayed Ponsana.
See Ponsana was smiling when he made mistake and he knew that he could not fight with Lee Chong Wei.

Koo Kien Keat / Tan Boon Heong have beaten another China pair today in the finals after eliminating the younger China pair yesterday at semi finals. It was a tough rubber games with the China pair Zhendong GUO / Chen XU.
The China pair was good at attacking leaving KKK / TBH in defensive styles but after some guidance by Rexy, they went attacking all the way and finally Malaysia won and it was also due to the massive support by the audience! Kien Keat and Boon Heong even threw their racquets to the audiences! Arghh… too bad can’t manage to grab it. Koo Kien Keat / Tan Boon Heong won 21-15, 17-21, 21-16 in almost 1 hour.

My brother who is working in Singapore went to watch the badminton match live but he called me telling me that Lee Chong Wei lost to a Vietnam’s guy named Nguyen Tien Minh whom I do not even know who is that.
What a shame indeed but I thought this Singapore Open should be kacang putih for him because this biggest rival Lin Dan from China is not competing. Hope trashed. What more our double pair Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong also lost in the game. So this weekend I will not stick to the Singapore Open as both my favorite also lost.

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei’s hopes of retaining his first badminton title outside Malaysia ended when he fell to a shock second round loss to Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh in the Singapore Open last night.
The tournament also lost its second seed after top Dane and former All-England champion Peter-Gade Christensen was bundled out 19-21, 21-16, 13-21 by India’s Anup Sridhar.

There was more bad news from the Malaysian doubles camp when top hopes and Swiss Open champions Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong fell to a surprise 13-21, 21-19, 21-14 defeat by England’s Nathan Robertson-Anthony Clark.
But it was the unheralded Vietnamese who produced the biggest upset of the tournament when he sent Chong Wei packing 24-22, 20-22, 21-19 in one hour.
The top seeded Malaysian failed to contain the onslaught from Tien Minh, who reached game point first to win the first game 24-22.
He then had Chong Wei hanging by the scruff of his neck before the Malaysian saved four game points to force a decider.
Chong Wei must have thought his problems were over when he led 18-16 in the decider but the Vietnamese caught up before eventually prevailing to secure his biggest career win so far.
It was the second successive early round setback for the Olympic silver medallist, after an upset stomach caused him to concede a first round defeat to China’s Chen Long in the Indian Open in March.
Malaysia will have no representative in the men’s singles after veteran Wong Choong Hann failed to get the better of Bao Chunlai of China.
The unseeded Chinese won 21-16, 21-17 in 36 minutes to set up a quarter-final clash with Tien Minh.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong’s defeat left former national pair Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen as the unlikely survivors in the men’s doubles.
Teik Chai-Bin Shen beat Fang Chieh-min-Lee Mu-shen 21-16, 21-15 and will play fourth seeds Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen of Denmark for a place in the semi-finals.
In the women’s doubles, top seeds Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty made it to the last eight after beating Dutch pair Rachel Van Cutsen-Paulien Van Dooremalen 21-16, 21-15.

Wow… Datuk Lee Chong Wei boleh! Last week Lee Chong Wei just lost to Lin Dan in All England 2009 but today he gave a good fighting spirit and he really show that he’s world number 1! Great job Lee Chong Wei. His form of playing is far better than Lin Dan. He able to run and cover most of the shot placed by Lin Dan. Lee Chong Wei manage to take the 1st game against Lin Dan and control of the game and the mind of Lin Dan quite well. Good Job!
In the game Lin Dan was a bit frustrated over some line judgment and the net call by the line judge and the umpire, it’s shown on screen that he actually threw his racquet! That’s was bad and no sportsmanship perhaps? This time round, Lee Chong Wei show patient and he slowly force Lin Dan to make uncountable mistakes and Chong Wei able to recover most of Lin Dan smashes as well. I think Lee Chong Wei get hold of how Lin Dan’s tactic and style and able to force Lin Dan to make more mistakes.
Chong Wei turns tables on Lin Dan to regain Swiss Open title
PETALING JAYA: World No. 1 Chong Wei turned the tables on his bitter rival Lin Dan to regain the Swiss Open men’s singles title in Basel yesterday.
After losing to the Chinese superstar in the final of the preceding All-England in Birmingham last week, Chong Wei, who won the Swiss Open title in 2006 and was the runner-up to Lin Dan last year, gave a much better performance to beat the Olympic champion 21-16, 21-16 in 52 minutes.

It was the sixth time in 18 meetings that Chong Wei managed to beat Lin Dan.
His previous win over the Chinese was in the Thomas Cup (world men’s team championship) semi-final tie in Jakarta last May before crashing to tame defeats in the final of the Beijing Olympics, China Open and the All-England.
But yesterday, it was the 27-year-old Chong Wei’s turn to take glory in his fourth consecutive Super Series final appearance this year. He was the champion in the season-opening Malaysian Open and was the runner-up in the Korean Open.
Chong Wei and Lin Dan qualified for the final in contrasting fashions on Saturday.
The Malaysian dropped a game against unheralded Dane Jan O Jorgensen before securing a 21-12, 20-22, 21-9 win in 51 minutes while Lin Dan cruised to a 21-13, 21-14 win over compatriot Chen Jin.
Chong Wei was delighted to get the better of Lin Dan.
“This is also the first title I won outside Malaysia since I became the world No. 1 after the Olympics last August.
“I just told myself I had nothing to lose but to give my best,” he said in a telephone interview. Singles chief coach Rashid Sidek also felt that Chong Wei was able to play because he did not put pressure on himself to win the match.
“Lin Dan did not looked that sharp today and most of his shots were off target. But it did not take anything away from Chong Wei as he still played a quality game,” said Rashid.

On the other hand, it was a good news to Malaysia too as we won the Men’s Double too. Koo Kien Keat / Tan Boon Heong beat Mathias BOE Carsten MOGENSEN in just two straight games too. I think this time, Koo and Tan easily beat the danish pair maybe because of their commitment and well preparation. Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong regain this Swiss title two years back.

PETALING JAYA: It was sweet revenge for Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong when they beat Danes Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen to win the Swiss Open men’s doubles title in Basel yesterday.
The Malaysian second seeds sent Boe-Mogensen packing in 38 minutes, winning the match 21-14, 21-18 to regain the title they won in 2007. It was also their first Super Series title in Europe in almost two years.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong, who won their last Super Series title at the Denmark Open in October 2007, had lost tamely to the current top Danish pair in the quarter-finals of the All-England in Birmingham last week.
The Malaysian duo came into the final with a gallant 23-21, 18-21, 21-14 win over All-England champions Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun of China in the semi-finals on Saturday.
They fought for 56 minutes to earn the title showdown against Boe-Mogensen, who overcame fifth seeds Lee Yong-dae-Shin Baek-choel of South Korea 19-21, 21-19, 21-14.
Winning their first title of the year could see Kien Keat-Boon Heong making their way back among the top four in the world ranking list.
When Kien Keat-Boon Heong last won the Swiss Open title, they were on a hot streak after ending a 25-year men’s doubles title drought for Malaysia at the All-England a week earlier.
Then as a newly-formed pair, they took world badminton by storm and won the gold medal in the Doha Asian Games in December 2006 before claiming the 2007 season-opening Malaysian Open crown as well.

Yonex Sunrise BWF World Super Series Masters Finals Results
KOTA KINABALU (DEC 21, 2008): Malaysia’s Datuk Lee Chong Wei finally lived up to his top billing when he won the men’s singles at the Yonex Sunrise BWF World Super Series Masters Finals at Likas Sports Complex today.
The world No.1, who entered the tournament with the dubious honour of never winning a tournament when he was the top seed, put an end to that hoodoo when he trounced Denmark’s Peter Gade 21-8, 21-16 in only 33 minutes.
It was a grand day for Malaysia as the ended the world richest badminton tournament with three titles as Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui won the men’s and women’s doubles respectively.
Chong Wei pocketed US$40,000 in prize money in the richest badminton tournament in the world that offered US$500,000 in cash prizes.
Today’s win was his second straight game win over the Dane in the tournament. He had beaten Gade 21-19, 21-17 in a Group A match earlier in the week.
The Dane paid fitting tribute to his conqueror and said: “At present, Chong Wei and Lin Dan (of China) are the two best players in the world and in a class of their own.”
Chong Wei said the final was surprisingly easy, especially the first game but the gritty Gade put up a stiffer resistance in the second game.
The match took only 33 minutes.
“I knew Peter would come back fighting in the second game after my easy win in the first. But I had prepared myself for a three-set game encounter but it did not materialise.
“I am extremely happy and it is very satisfying to win my first title as a world number one. Now that I have broken the jinx, I am looking with confidence for the new season.
“My target next year is the All England and the World championships. I will compete in the Malaysian Open next month but I will skip the Korean Open to give myself two months to prepare for the two important tournaments,” said Chong Wei.
“After the Olympics I did not train much but still played in several tournaments. I skipped the Hong Kong Open to prepare myself for the Super Series Finals.
Malaysia’s second title came when Kien Keat-Boon Heong finally won their first major of the year to end the 2008 season on a high.
The Malaysians, who have been through a bad spell following their meteoric rise last year, were clearly delighted to have beaten South Korea’s Jung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae 21-18, 21-14 in only 37 minutes.
“I’m extremely happy that we have finally won a major title this year. It has been frustrating but I think we are finally back on track and we can look forward to 2009 with great confidence,” said a relieved Kien Keat.
“I think one reason for our re-emergence as a top pair is that we trust each other and play more as a combination instead as individuals.
“We have also been very relaxed in this tournament. I have gone swimming, had walks on the beach and have just enjoyed playing without any pressure.
“Maybe that is the key for us to continue doing well, Taking it easy and not worrying about the results.”
Boon Heong echoed Kien Keat’s sentiments and also said he hopes this win will help them regain their status as the world’s top pair.
“We hope this win will help us next season as we are gunning for the world title. We have not had much training recently but we will make sure we get enough of court time if we are to do just as well next year.”
Malaysia’s third title came when Pei Tty-Eei Hui outclassed Indonesia’s Vita Marissa-Liliyana Natsir 21-15, 22-20 in 34 minutes.
“I am feeling very very tired but we are really happy to have ended the season on a high note. If China had been here we would still be ranked number one but the expectations would have been different.
It has been a very good year for us. We will try to maintain our performance and achievements,” said Pei Tty.
Eei Hui said: “I need to improve my physical fitness. I did not train much in the last two months after coming down with knee and ankle injuries.
“Overall we are more steady now compared to the start of the season. The Malaysian Open will be different as the Chinese and the Koreans will be there. It will be a good test for us.”
It was double heartbreak for Lilyana as she also lost the mixed doubles with Nova Widianto.
The Indonesians squandered four match points against Denmark’s Thomas Laybourn-Kamilla Rytter Juhl and lost 21-19, 18-21, 22-20 in 62 minutes.
“I was quite relaxed really. I didn’t feel any pressure as we had nothing to lose. We had given our best but I was determined to win the next point to regain the service as I was quite confident of getting a few more point to edge closer to the Indonesians.
“I noticed that Nova was a little nervous and I think it showed as he and Liliyana made several mistakes towards the end.”
Laybourn added: “To win five points in a row is quite amazing, especially at such a crucial stage. The crowd was fantastic as they supported both sets of players and I’m delighted we have captured the title.”
Hong Kong’s Zhou Mi gained revenge for her group loss to team mate Wang Chen (HKG 3) when she won the women’s singles finals of the Yonex Sunrise BWF World Super Series Masters Finals 21-14, 21-18 in only 32 minutes.
Zhou Mi took home US$40,000 for her win.
“The disappointment of not playing in the Olympics was there but I put that aside and looked to other tournaments as badminton is my first love,” said Zhou Mi.
“My love for badminton is second to none. It kept me going and played in other tournaments some of which I won. That was satisfying.
“I lost to Wang Chen in the group match but as I said earlier, I got adjusted to the local environment and my game improved. This was proven in my win in the final.
“My next tournament is the Malaysian Open but I am taking one tournament at a time. But I will be there.”
The world number one was the top seed and the crowd’s favourite right from day one of the tournament which got underway on Thursday.
Her top priority next year is the World Championships.
“I have never won the world title and I will go for it,” added Zhou Mi who said she has some nagging injuries but she would rather not reveal to the public.

Datuk Lee Chong Wei once again fail to get gold medal after the Beijing Olympics defeat to Lin Dan. His first outing as World Number 1 in Japan Open two weeks ago also defeat to Soni Dwi and today yet again he lost to Taufik Hidayat both from Indonesia. Will it affect his world ranking? Could Datuk Lee retain his World Number 1 title? He said “Will definitely try my best!” in his blog but hopefully next time he will get better result.
On the other hand congrats to Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, they are able to retain Champion in Macau Open that they won at 2007. They should make a better pair and prove that they are not deserved to be splited.
Julia Wong lost to Zhou Mi
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) — Top Malaysian doubles pair Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong successfully defended their Macau Open title but world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei stumbled against Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in the men’s singles final Sunday.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong, the top seeds in the tournament, crushed Fang Chieh Min/Lee Sheng Mu of Taiwan 21-16, 21-18 in just 31 minutes to end a 11-month drought of silverware.
The 2007 All England champions had last won a major title in October last year by lifting the Denmark Open.
For Chong Wei though, his jinx of failing to win titles when ranked world number one, continued since taking over the top spot from China’s Lin Dan after the Beijing Olympics, where he finished with a silver medal.
Chong Wei, whose first outing as World number one started with the Japan Open two weeks ago, however had ended in a defeat to Soni Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia and today incidentally lost to another Indonesian.
A vintage Taufik was in his element today to emerge with a 21-19, 21-15 win, to clinch his first major trophy in almost two years.
Ever since the demoralising defeat at the hands of Lin Dan in the Beijing Olympics final, Chong Wei’s confidence level seems to have suffered a great deal, especially at crucial moments.
On the other hand, Kien Keat-Boon Heong who had come under heavy criticism for their inept performances of late, displayed glimpses of the form that saw them shoot up to world number one in 2007.
The women’s singles final saw Zhou Mi of Hong Kong end Malaysian Julia Wong Pei Xian’s ‘giant-killing’ feat in the competition, with a 21-13, 21-19 win.
