Astro celebrated the inauguration of Astro’s Chinese Artiste Management at 17 Saloon, Sunway Giza. This star studded event saw the attendance of numerous invited guests including media members, the who’s who in the local broadcasting industry including music producers, production house personnel and advertisers to celebrate this milestone in local Chinese entertainment with an array of live music and performances from Astro’s in-house artistes.

I’m not an artiste but I was being invited as a guest too! Thanks. =)

Astro’s Chinese Artiste Management was established with the objective to strengthen the image and identity of the artistes under its management and to nurture and develop the careers of these high caliber local talents.

Among the artistes managed by the artiste management unit are, Siow Hui Mei, Gan Jiang Han, Cleo Tay, Loong Boon Min, Emely Poon, Kay Kwok, Danny Koo, Chen Keat Yoke, Juztin Lan, Peace Teo, Stephanie Liew, Fyone Tan, Geraldine Gan, Tha Kien Ying, top 8 finalists of Classic Golden Melody 2011, and top 5 finalists of Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2011, just to name a few.

Backed by Astro’s Chinese Customer Business, the Astro’s Chinese Artiste Management is one of the largest artiste management units in Malaysia encompassing 38 and increasing contracted talents, ranging from news anchors, programme hosts, actors and actresses to contestants from various reality talent shows.

Choo Chi Han, Astro’s Vice President of Chinese Customer Business said, “Astro produces numerous talent search programmes every year, in addition we have programmes of different genres such as variety, food, travel, music, documentary and education, including countdown galas and movies. We hope to develop a strong Malaysian talent pool as apart from the exceptional expertise in production, hosts and talents are necessities as the faces of our programmes to raise the bar of our programmes on par with international productions.”

“Through this artiste management unit, Astro aspires to develop both new and experienced talents, through training courses and various performing opportunities, to become all-rounded artistes,” said Choo.

The diversity on Astro’s Chinese channels enables talents to explore and showcase their different potential on the most suitable platforms. For instance, the debater-turned-news anchor Gan Jiang Han managed to diversify his career when he was given the opportunity to host a children’s programme and acting in movies and later on became a product’s brand ambassador. Also, the singer-turned-actress Kay Kwok diversified her career path as she joined Astro to take up the leading female role in “Home”, the first Hokkien drama produced by Astro Hua Hee Dai.

Not only that, Emely Poon who was once a pageant aspirant, has been trained to become TV host and radio announcer. Talents unearthed from Astro Star Quest will get the opportunity to explore various career possibilities; Danny Koo, Eng Yee Min and Chang Yew Joe hosted a few programmes respectively and now they are also driving the community-based Astro BDQ Cruiser, while Peace Teo, Stephanie Liew and Fyone Tan have released their debut singles.

The first-time collaboration between Astro Star Quest and popular reality singing show in Taiwan, Million Stars, enabled the top 5 finalists this year to participate in the competition where both Geraldine Gan and Tha Kien Ying (currently in the top 8 position) have earned themselves a ticket to international fame.

With efforts continuous efforts to develop our talent regardless of age, the artiste management, have successfully led the golden-aged talents from Classic Golden Melody singing competition to shine continuously as they have got chances to release a group album, appear on music show “Classic Saturday” and perform in various events.

同时，他也公布了另外一项值得让歌迷期待的活动，即Astro中文艺人管理部年底在云顶娱乐城将会有一场别开生面的跨年演唱会，这场演唱会一共分两个场地进行，让年轻人和爸爸妈妈们同时观赏自己喜欢的歌唱表演，一起倒数和庆祝新年！

另外，选美出身的潘毖伶被栽培成为电视、电台主持人；从新秀大赛中崛起的多位新秀如许佳麟、黄毓敏、刘界辉、曾洁钰、曾耀祖等，都能够接触到电视主持和各项演出机会，因此人气大增，而张诒博、刘佩芯和陈慧莹等皆有机会推出音乐作品。值得一提的是，今年《Astro新秀大赛》首次与海外歌唱节目合作，让五强新秀获保送赴台湾参加第一届《华人星光大道》的百人初选，颜慧萍和赵洁莹更双双告捷，目前已进入比赛的8强阶段。

除此之外，Astro也不忘兼顾各个年龄层的人才，为《Astro经典名曲歌唱大赛》的歌手进行演艺生涯规划，例如与唱片公司合力推出8强合辑、上歌唱节目《好！经典》继续亮声，以及各项歌唱演出，让他们的黄金年华更添精彩。

《Astro国际华裔小姐竞选2011》“Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2011” (MACIP 2011) grand finale will be held tonight, 29 October Live at 8.00pm at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highland.

The meet and greet session with the top 10 finalists was held on 19 October at Sunway Pyramid, Blue Atrium.

《Astro国际华裔小姐竞选2011》MACIP 2011 which is exclusively produced by Astro Ben Di Quan (Local Belt) sees a new theme this year, “Caring for Cultural Heritage”. The theme was chosen symbolic to the meaning of beauty possessed by the finalists and the aesthetic values held by the ancient cultural heritage, allowing a brand new sense of sight.

The ancient buildings and archaeological sites as cultural heritages have always reflected the ancients’ thoughts, wisdom and cultural development process of a region and ethnic groups. Today, protecting and saving them are our responsibility.

Accompanied with the advanced technology, modern women are able to elevate their creativity bar towards make up and appearance. Therefore, the lasting fascination of a beauty of cultural heritages can only be compared with a woman’s inner beauty. Suara Kami 2011 Concert @ Stadium Merdeka

Malaysian Youth had an enjoyable night with some of the hottest names in music at the coolest youth concert, Suara Kami 2011 by Astro on 17th September 2011, 7.30pm at Stadium Merdeka.

The Suara Kami Concert was organized by Astro in conjunction of Malaysia Day as well as Astro’s 15th Anniversary.

“Music knows no boundaries. It is the common language amongst youth today. The Suara Kami 2011 Concert celebrates the spirit of Malaysian youth. It coincides with the significance of Malaysia Day and the event also marks ‘15 years of Astro with you’ – our valuable customers. We are making it a double celebration with international and local artistes to entertain all Malaysian youth” said Henry Tan, Chief Operating Officer of Astro Malaysia.

Some of the hottest names from the international music arena like K pop sensation Rania; award winning playback singers from India Naresh Iyer and Chinmayi; popular Canto pop singer from Hong Kong, Hins Cheung 張敬軒; and some of the hottest names in the local music scene like Yuna, Hujan, Faizal Tahir, Pop Shuvit, Lan Typewriter, Psycho Unit, Soul Krazy, Ruffneckz, Stacy and Malaysian Rock Legends such as Man Kidal, Kid Search, Joe Wings and Hillary Ang were the line up for the Suara Kami Concert.

Astro’s second local Chinese film production, Great Day, was the major box office success for local Chinese films. Great Day is the highest grossing local Chinese film in Malaysia with the accumulation of RM6.5 million within eight weeks of its screening. This record-breaking film, distributed by Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), has also surpassed Woohoo!, Astro’s first Chinese local film production garnering RM 4.2 million in box office collection last year.

In celebration of the box office hit and the premiere screening in Taiwan, Astro organised an appreciation party today at Overtime, Tropicana City Mall as a gesture of appreciation to each and every party who made this film a success it is today. During the appreciation party, the much-anticipated launch date of the Great Day DVD was announced. The Great Day DVD will be released on 30 April distributed by Multimedia nationwide.

Attending the Great Day appreciation party were Chiu Keng Guan, the film director, Choo Chi Han, Vice President of Chinese Language Business of Astro and the film’s executive producer, Steven Lim, Managing Director of Multimedia, Tung Yow Kong, Senior Distributor Manager of GSC, movie crew members, distinguished guests and media members. Lineup of movie cast included Jack Lim, Wan Wai Fun, Royce Tan, Vivian Tok, Bernard Hiew, Jeff Chin, Gan Mei Yan, Loong Boon Min, Lim Yew Beng, Yap Ah Lan, Crystal Lee, Tan Hao Yen, Miao Lim and Brendan Yuen. Gan Jiang Han, who was working during a live broadcast of Evening Edition, missed the fun-filled party.

The Great Day DVD, encompasses the 90-minute film as well as a 75-min the making of, movie trailer and photo gallery for collection, is slated to hit the store shelves on 30 April. The DVD is priced at RM19.90; meanwhile its economic version with film only will also be available at a very affordable price of RM10. Multimedia who owns the copyright of Great Day deployed a better technology in producing the first batch of 6,000 DVDs to ensure content quality.

Great Day premiered last 13 January in 60 cinemas nationwide; tells of the various relationships between children and their parents and revolves around the central theme of the much-treasured Asian value of filial piety. The film has garnered overwhelming positive feedbacks from the local movie- goers, accumulating over RM6.5 million gross box office collections, despite stiff rivalry against foreign blockbusters during the Chinese New Year. The efforts of Chiu and Astro paid off when Great Day, together with Woohoo!, successfully hit the big screens in Taiwan on 15 April, showcasing unique Malaysian cultures to audience abroad.

（吉隆坡30日訊）MY Astro本地製作電影《天天好天》創下650萬令吉票房，刷新本地中文電影票房冠軍紀錄並成功殺進台灣市場，電影女主角尹匯雰兌現諾言“谷”胸慶功，卓卉勤也不甘示弱露出半邊酥胸，兩女成為鎂光燈焦點，搶盡風頭！

由Astro出品、Golden Screen Cinemas（GSC）發行的MY Astro本地製作電影《天天好天》上映8周突破650萬令吉票房，也超越了去年《大日子Woohoo！》的420萬票房。當英國威廉王子與凱特正舉行世紀婚禮之時，Astro也擇於同一晚在麗陽城購物廣場（Tropicana City Mall）的夜店Overtime舉辦慶功派對。導演青元（Chiu導）率領一眾演員包括林德榮、尹匯雰、陳志康、卓卉勤、邱文博、陳浩然、顏薇恩、龍紋敏、林耀明、覃業水、葉亞蘭、李馨巧、陳浩嚴、林靜苗、BrendanYuen等熱鬧登場，顏江瀚和楊佳賢由於工作在身而未克出席。

曾在《天天好天》首映禮上揚言若電影創下500萬票房便挑戰性感尺度的尹匯雰，當晚顯然有備而來，上半身黑色外套內搭黑色push-up胸罩，在林德榮的“協助”下將外套扒開，大秀事業線，現場歡呼聲與掌聲不斷，怎知被林德榮揶揄性感和暴露只是一線之差。“漂亮的叫性感，醜的叫暴露，而你開起來是非常暴露！”

不料瘦身中的卓卉勤也不讓尹匯雰專美於前，胸前偉大的她在主持人陳浩然的起哄下上台和尹匯雰較勁，最後還擺出撩人姿勢，大方讓媒體朋友拍照，讓她不禁感嘆：“想不到這個年紀還要犧牲色相！”

650萬票房的幕後功臣Chiu導上台致謝辭時，不忘感激大馬媒體對本地電影作品的支持，讓《天天好天》得以有如此佳績。

Chiu導表示：“上次我們的殺青宴以中式進行，之後便有台灣片商聯絡我們，這次我們選擇西式慶功宴，希望好萊塢會找上門來！

《天天》DVD預購2天破6萬張

當晚也捎來另一則好消息，在電影下畫後觀眾詢問度極高的《天天好天》DVD，終於在4月30日正式推出，交由Multimedia全國發行。

Multimedia董事經理Steven林文祥透露，在短短兩天內，DVD的預購數目已達到6萬5千張。

去年《大日子Woohoo！》的DVD銷售量高達10萬張，今年Multimedia以去年的3倍價格購得《天天好天》的DVD音像版權，並採用更好的技術印製，以確保影片的高質量。

If Astro B.yond IPTV could implement something that we could just select a channel and surf with the TV + Keyboard but without required of a PC that would be cool and convenient right? Will that be possible? Hehe, if they could do it why not? I’m still waiting for the availability in Petaling Jaya.

Astro Brings Malaysians More Channels on Asian Games 2010

Malaysians will be able to follow the adrenaline-pumping action of our Malaysian athletes and cheer them on in the Asian Games in Guangzhou from the comfort of their living rooms from November 12 to 27.

Astro will be beaming six additional Standard Definition (SD) channels (Astro Channels 821 – 826) for those on the sports package. In addition to this, all Astro customers will also be able to follow the progress of our Malaysian athletes on Astro Arena (Channel 801) for no additional charges.

Rashid Salleh, one of the key presenters on Astro Arena, will be the anchorman in Guangzhou and Azura Zainal, Edleen Ismail and Akhbar Hj Shaari will assist him at the Arena studio. Arena will present the daily live coverage from 8.30am to 11.00pm where there will be a 3-5 minutes of updates on an hourly basis on medal tally, results and highlights of the Malaysian athletes. There will also be a daily highlights and analysis between 11.30pm to 12.00 midnight.

Prior to the commencement of the Games, Astro Arena organized a roadshow, Road to Asian Games to increase the excitement over the Asian Games. The event which was held between October 28 and 31 at Main Concourse Area (Old Wing), Sunway Pyramid, was a way of showing our appreciation and support for Malaysian athletes competing in Guangzhou.

There’s a lot of fans with banners went to support Malaysian Heros in this meet and greet session.

Fans were able to catch glimpse of Astro Arena’s channel ambassadors such as Lee Chong Wei, Ester Cheah, the twins Zaquan and Zafuan, Daniel Bego, Mariappan, Marina Chin, Mirnawan Nawawi, Dato Yogeswaran, Dato Soh Chin Aun, Dato Rahim Razali and most of the Commonwealth Games medal winners as well, as they were participating in on-ground activities in promoting the Asian Games.

Visitors were treated to a line-up of interesting activities such as Giant Jenga, E-games and F1 Simulator. The highlights of the event included the Lagenda Arena (Hall of Fame), which showcased the feats of our legendary sportsmen and sportswomen, and a Pledge Board, through which members of the public relay their messages of support for our athletes.

So if you love sports should stay tuned and catch the live Asian Games 2010 on Astro this November. I will be watching Datuk Lee Chong Wei in action for sure!

How to remove Astro "Press R 2010 FIFA World Cup" Icon

Do you feel the “Press R 2010 FIFA World Cup” Icon annoying? It’s like blocking my view when I watch the 2010 FIFA World Cup or normal TV Program!

Do you get what I mean? With the Astro logo it’s big enough moreover now there’s another icon below it! I have seen some other places outside with projector playing FIFA World Cup also with this icon, please remove it, yes it can be removed easily do you know that?

No worries, I’m here to teach you how to remove it! Lol… It’s pretty easy.

Just take your Astro Remote Control… Press on any other color button except R (You may press on Blue, Green or Yellow)

Tadaaa…. It’s gone! Yes, that’s much better isn’t it? At least for me yes la… It’s lagi cacated when asking you the press “R” the icon just get disappear without popping out anything… hahah… something wrong?

Celebrating the Box-Office Success of 大日子Woohoo @ Pantai Beserah, Kuantan

大日子Woohoo!, the first 100% Malaysian produced Chinese movie by Woohoo Picture and Astro Shaw jointly presented by Astro and MY FM, was a major box-office success, accumulating over RM4 million in Malaysia since its release on 14 January 2010.

As a gesture of gratitude to each and every individual who had made it happened, Astro organised an appreciation dinner today at Kampung Pantai Beserah, Kuantan, where the movie was shot.

周青元 Chiu Keng Guan, the movie director and a line-up of artistes such as 林德荣 Jack Lim, 颜江瀚 Gan Jiang Han, 杨佳贤 Jason Yeoh, 邱文博 Bernard Hiew, 曾洁钰 Chen Keat Yoke, 颜薇恩 Gan Mei Yan, 卓卉勤 Vivian Tok and 黄一飞 Freddie Ng were there to celebrate with the guests.

Astrolife – a brainchild of Astro which purpose is to reward Astro customers and their families for their loyalty shown towards Astro, had invited a total of 50 Astro’s customers to the feast.

For the first time in history, Astro and MY FM jointly present a 100% locally made movie Woohoo! – from director, cast, scriptwriter, to cameraman, the end-to-end production was done locally. The movie has garnered over RM4million gross box office despite it was only shown in 38 cinemas nationwide, beating the box office of Singaporean movies The Wedding Game and Love Matters in Malaysia.

On the other hand, Jack Lim was interviewed and asked about Jack Neo scandal / affair, he said he could not believe this would happen to Jack Neo. He’s now busy with 《阿炳》”Ah Beng” sitcom and all kind of activities or merchandise related to 《阿炳》”Ah Beng”.

All of the artists and guest received each a limited edition 35mm film of Woohoo!

Astro On Demand will soon be airing Woohoo! on its platform to reward customers of Dragon Pack. Customers can catch this heart-warming movie round the clock on Astro On Demand Channel 941 between 20 April at 8.30pm and 2 May, at no extra cost. Non-Dragon Pack customers can also purchase the title at RM5 for unlimited watch within that period of time.

Make Your Dreams Come True at Astro Star Quest 新秀大赛 2010

If you think you are as good as the Astro Star Quest contestants you watch on television each week, now is the chance for you to prove it. The much anticipated star-making programme, Astro Star Quest returns in its 14th year with a call for an audition at Federal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on March 20 – 21, 2010 from 9am-3pm.

Open to all Malaysian aged between 18 to 26 years old and able to converse in Mandarin and Cantonese, this year’s one and only audition will be judged by renowned music industry personalities namely 李伟菘 Lee Wei Shiong from Singapore and Malaysian music producer Alex San. Shortlisted contestants from the first round audition will compete in the second round audition, where fifteen of them will be picked for the preliminary rounds.

Since its debut in 1997, Astro Star Quest (formerly known as Astro Talent Quest), has become a prominent local Chinese singing reality show that fulfilled dreams of many young Malaysians to become successful singers, such as 张栋樑 Nicholas Teo, Gary Cao, Eric Lim, 陈势安 Andrew Tan, Amy Wong, Gan Wan Chean and Choo Hou Ren.

Astro Star Quest 2010 is open to all Malaysians who meet the following requirements:
1. The Contestant must be Malaysian and able to converse in Mandarin and Cantonese;

2. The Contestant must be 18 years old as at 20th March, 2010 and below 26 years old as at 1st October, 2010 (based on the Gregorian calendar);

3. The Contestant must sing from a selection of Chinese/Mandarin pop songs;

4.The Contestant must not be a recording artiste where he/she has released or in the process of releasing any solo and/or group album after the age of 12 years; or has intention to release a solo and/or group album within six months from the date of the finals of the contest;

5.The Contestant must have never qualified for grand finals of the 1st International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship 1997 (Malaysia Final), Astro Talent Quest 1998 – 2007, Astro Star Quest 2008 – 2009.
