Astro celebrated the inauguration of Astro’s Chinese Artiste Management at 17 Saloon, Sunway Giza. This star studded event saw the attendance of numerous invited guests including media members, the who’s who in the local broadcasting industry including music producers, production house personnel and advertisers to celebrate this milestone in local Chinese entertainment with an array of live music and performances from Astro’s in-house artistes.

Astro’s Chinese Artiste Management was established with the objective to strengthen the image and identity of the artistes under its management and to nurture and develop the careers of these high caliber local talents.

For instance, the debater-turned-news anchor Gan Jiang Han managed to diversify his career when he was given the opportunity to host a children’s programme and acting in movies and later on became a product’s brand ambassador. Also, the singer-turned-actress Kay Kwok diversified her career path as she joined Astro to take up the leading female role in “Home”, the first Hokkien drama produced by Astro Hua Hee Dai.

Not only that, Emely Poon who was once a pageant aspirant, has been trained to become TV host and radio announcer. Talents unearthed from Astro Star Quest will get the opportunity to explore various career possibilities; Danny Koo, Eng Yee Min and Chang Yew Joe hosted a few programmes respectively and now they are also driving the community-based Astro BDQ Cruiser, while Peace Teo, Stephanie Liew and Fyone Tan have released their debut singles.

Malaysian Youth had an enjoyable night with some of the hottest names in music at the coolest youth concert, Suara Kami 2011 by Astro on 17th September 2011, 7.30pm at Stadium Merdeka.
The Suara Kami Concert was organized by Astro in conjunction of Malaysia Day as well as Astro’s 15th Anniversary.
“Music knows no boundaries. It is the common language amongst youth today. The Suara Kami 2011 Concert celebrates the spirit of Malaysian youth. It coincides with the significance of Malaysia Day and the event also marks ‘15 years of Astro with you’ – our valuable customers. Astro’s second local Chinese film production, Great Day, was the major box office success for local Chinese films. Great Day is the highest grossing local Chinese film in Malaysia with the accumulation of RM6.5 million within eight weeks of its screening. This record-breaking film, distributed by Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), has also surpassed Woohoo!, Astro’s first Chinese local film production garnering RM 4.2 million in box office collection last year.
In celebration of the box office hit and the premiere screening in Taiwan, Astro organised an appreciation party today at Overtime, Tropicana City Mall as a gesture of appreciation to each and every party who made this film a success it is today. During the appreciation party, the much-anticipated launch date of the Great Day DVD was announced. The Great Day DVD will be released on 30 April distributed by Multimedia nationwide.
Attending the Great Day appreciation party were Chiu Keng Guan, the film director, Choo Chi Han, Vice President of Chinese Language Business of Astro and the film’s executive producer, Steven Lim, Managing Director of Multimedia, Tung Yow Kong, Senior Distributor Manager of GSC, movie crew members, distinguished guests and media members. Lineup of movie cast included Jack Lim, Wan Wai Fun, Royce Tan, Vivian Tok, Bernard Hiew, Jeff Chin, Gan Mei Yan, Loong Boon Min, Lim Yew Beng, Yap Ah Lan, Crystal Lee, Tan Hao Yen, Miao Lim and Brendan Yuen. Gan Jiang Han, who was working during a live broadcast of Evening Edition, missed the fun-filled party.
The Great Day DVD, encompasses the 90-minute film as well as a 75-min the making of, movie trailer and photo gallery for collection, is slated to hit the store shelves on 30 April. The DVD is priced at RM19.90; meanwhile its economic version with film only will also be available at a very affordable price of RM10. Multimedia who owns the copyright of Great Day deployed a better technology in producing the first batch of 6,000 DVDs to ensure content quality.
Great Day premiered last 13 January in 60 cinemas nationwide; tells of the various relationships between children and their parents and revolves around the central theme of the much-treasured Asian value of filial piety. Malaysians will be able to follow the adrenaline-pumping action of our Malaysian athletes and cheer them on in the Asian Games in Guangzhou from the comfort of their living rooms from November 12 to 27.
Astro will be beaming six additional Standard Definition (SD) channels (Astro Channels 821 – 826) for those on the sports package. In addition to this, all Astro customers will also be able to follow the progress of our Malaysian athletes on Astro Arena (Channel 801) for no additional charges.
Rashid Salleh, one of the key presenters on Astro Arena, will be the anchorman in Guangzhou and Azura Zainal, Edleen Ismail and Akhbar Hj Shaari will assist him at the Arena studio. Arena will present the daily live coverage from 8.30am to 11.00pm where there will be a 3-5 minutes of updates on an hourly basis on medal tally, results and highlights of the Malaysian athletes. There will also be a daily highlights and analysis between 11.30pm to 12.00 midnight.
Prior to the commencement of the Games, Astro Arena organized a roadshow, Road to Asian Games to increase the excitement over the Asian Games. 大日子Woohoo!, the first 100% Malaysian produced Chinese movie by Woohoo Picture and Astro Shaw jointly presented by Astro and MY FM, was a major box-office success, accumulating over RM4 million in Malaysia since its release on 14 January 2010.

Make Your Dreams Come True at Astro Star Quest 新秀大赛 2010
If you think you are as good as the Astro Star Quest contestants you watch on television each week, now is the chance for you to prove it. The much anticipated star-making programme, Astro Star Quest returns in its 14th year with a call for an audition at Federal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on March 20 – 21, 2010 from 9am-3pm.
Open to all Malaysian aged between 18 to 26 years old and able to converse in Mandarin and Cantonese, this year’s one and only audition will be judged by renowned music industry personalities namely 李伟菘 Lee Wei Shiong from Singapore and Malaysian music producer Alex San. Shortlisted contestants from the first round audition will compete in the second round audition, where fifteen of them will be picked for the preliminary rounds.

Astro Star Quest 2010 is open to all Malaysians who meet the following requirements:
1. The Contestant must be Malaysian and able to converse in Mandarin and Cantonese;
2. The Contestant must be 18 years old as at 20th March, 2010 and below 26 years old as at 1st October, 2010 (based on the Gregorian calendar);
3. The Contestant must sing from a selection of Chinese/Mandarin pop songs;
4.The Contestant must not be a recording artiste where he/she has released or in the process of releasing any solo and/or group album after the age of 12 years; or has intention to release a solo and/or group album within six months from the date of the finals of the contest;
