Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs has died at the age of 56 after a years-long and highly public battle with cancer and other health issues. Steve Jobs stepped down from his role as CEO on August 24th this year following a long hiatus. The visionary leader behind the Macintosh, iPad, iPod and iPhone was suffering from pancreatic cancer.
Apple CEO Tim Cook sent an email to Apple staff, which reads:

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

There’s no Apple iPhone 5, it’s Apple iPhone 4S that was announced. The Apple’s new iPhone 4S is just like iPhone 4 exterior design loaded with a new brain and more memory. It’s kinda disappointment for all the Apple fans or followers that expecting the announcement of Apple iPhone 5.
Newly minted CEO Tim Cook ably helmed his first major product launch without former boss Steve Jobs, but failed to ignite the sort of excitement and buzz that the charismatic Apple co-founder once did.
Investors and fans, looking to be blown away by some amazing surprise, sent the shares down as much as 5 percent before they recovered with the market to close down 0.6 percent.
Apple iPhone 4S will run your apps faster in dual-core A5 processors alongside a new dual-core GPU that supposedly boosts graphics performance by up to 7x and Apple’s new iOS5‘s Assistant, an artificial intelligence program that listens and interprets your orders, and a better 8 Mega Pixel camera.
Up front is the same 3.5-inch Retina display as iPhone 4, and around back is a glass plate. Those antennae around the sides (which caused many users so much trouble) have been revamped and iOS will intelligently switch between two different sets on the fly to avoid dropping calls no matter how you hold it.
Those antennae are connected to a dual-mode GSM and CDMA radio that will let Apple’s handset roam the globe while enjoying either 14.4Mbps HSPA+ or EV-DO Rev. A an improvement over the iPhone 4′s 7.2 Mpbs.
The 8-megapixel camera come with a backside illuminated CMOS sensor for better low-light performance. The lens now comes packed in a new 5-element assembly with a hybrid IR filter and sports apertures down to f/2.4. The improved visuals extend to video performance as well.
The iPhone 4S can record 1080p video and has a new image signal processor for image stabilization and facial recognition, making the handset’s camera comparable to many point-and-shoots. The camera is also quite a bit faster than many other smartphone shooters, needing only 1.1 seconds before being ready to take the first shot and only half a second between successive images.
Siri on iPhone 4S lets you use your voice to send messages, set reminders, place phone calls, and more.
Just tap the mic on the keyboard (just like on Android!) and start talking to enter text, check the weather, get directions or perform web searches.
You ask Siri a question example “Do I need a raincoat today?” Siri will try and make sense of it and responds “It sure looks like rain today.” Other examples include “What is the time in Kuala Lumpur?” Siri will then show you the world clock. Yes it comes with iOS 5, but only 4S users will be able to enjoy it.
iCloud stores your music, photos, documents, and more and wirelessly
As far as battery life, you’re looking at 8 hours of talk over 3G, and 14 hours of 2G, while web browsing over 3G cuts off at 6 hours. Using WiFi you’ll get a respectable 9 hours of web, video playback tops out at 10 hours and music at 40 hours.
The iPhone 4S will come in three variants, the brand new 64GB ($399), 32GB ($299), and 16GB ($199), and it will come in both black and white. The pricing is the same as the iPhone 4 last year. What’s the Apple iPhone 4S pricing in Malaysia?
It’s yet to update from all the major telco – Maxis, Celcom, Digi. Will update once the pricing is available but it should be similar to the iPhone 4 price!
The iPhone 4S pre-order starting this friday, October 7th, and it’ll start shipping on October 14th in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, and Japan. Oh, and Apple is welcoming Sprint to the family here in the States, while Vodafone, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Three will all be carrying it in the UK.
On October 28th, 22 more countries will get it, Singapore is one of them. Presumably, Malaysia is targeted for the end of the year release.
So in conclusion it’s the same old iPhone 4 design, same screen size, it’s not any thinner or lighter, and there’s no resolution boost. No true 4G or LTE either. It’s only Camera and processor upgrade! Do you want to be locked down in a contract extension without awesome features that are standard on a lot of rival devices?

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics has already planned out an aggressive legal strategy to block sales of Apple’s unannounced iPhone 5 when it arrives in Korea. Samsung will file lawsuits to try to block the sale of Apple’s iPhone 5 as part of its global legal tussle with the US technology giant.
The two firms are at loggerheads in a series of patent lawsuits over the technology and design of their smartphones and tablet computers. It was unclear whether Samsung would seek a sales ban of the Apple iPhone 5, only in South Korea or internationally.
The patent war between Apple vs Samsung has quickly escalated since the iPhone maker fired the first shot in April. At least 23 lawsuits are pending between Samsung and Apple across a number of countries. Apple has seen a few early victories against Samsung, including a permanent ban preventing its rival from selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Germany.

Samsung to seek iPhone 5 ban in Korea, report says
The iPhone 5 hasn’t even been announced yet, and already Samsung is planning to ban its sale in South Korea, a new report claims.
According to the Korea Times, citing sources with knowledge of the matter, Samsung will file suit against Apple for violating its patents related to wireless communications as soon as possible after the Cupertino, Calif.-based company launches its follow-up to the iPhone 4. In that lawsuit, the Korea Times’ sources say, Samsung will request the court ban all sales of the device.
“For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents,” a Samsung source reportedly told Korea Times. “We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights.”
The Korea Times report is just the latest entry in the ongoing legal saga between Apple and Samsung. Over the last several months, the companies have ramped up their bitter patent battle, taking it all over the world. As of this writing, the companies are battling it out in the U.S., Australia, across Europe, and in parts of Asia.
So far, Apple has gotten the better of Samsung. In Australia, the iPhone maker was able to get Samsung to agree to show it three Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet designs before it sells the single version that Apple allows. Earlier this month, Apple successfully stopped the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany, following an earlier, overturned ruling by a German court that temporarily banned the sale of Samung’s tablet across the EU.
But it’s not just tablets. Both companies claim that the other’s smartphones violate their patents, as well. And so far, neither side has budged.
Apple has been especially critical of Samsung over the last several months. In South Korea, Apple filed a complaint against Samsung, saying that its products have been copied.
“[Samsung's] products…blatantly imitate the appearance of Apple’s products to capitalize on Apple’s success,” Apple said in its complaint in June. “The copying has been widely observed in the industry and has been mentioned in multiple articles reviewing Samsung products.”
For its part, Samsung has left most of the talking for the courtroom, deciding instead to say publicly that it will “continue to actively defend and protect our intellectual property.”
This time around, Samsung has not immediately responded to a CNET request for comment on its lawsuit plans against the iPhone 5. Apple has also not immediately responded to CNET’s request for comment.
That said, there’s no telling what either side can say. Apple has so far remained tight-lipped on the iPhone 5 and hasn’t even acknowledged that the device will launch anytime soon. What’s more, the rumor mill can’t even keep it straight: some reports suggest the device will launch this month, while others say it won’t happen until October.
The next iPhone will be out soon, and Samsung’s legal team is going to be nice and ready for it: the company’s told the Korea Times that it’s already working on a national sales ban.
If a Korean court granted Samsung the injunction, it’d be an unprecedented victory in the tedious patent slap fight between the two companies (during which only Apple has landed a few slaps).
Once again, Samsung claims the iPhone 5 will step on its own patents. Will it prevail? Probably not. The company’s been unable to prove its case before judges around the world, and given the likelihood that the 5 will be largely similar to its predecessor, their luck isn’t likely to improve. Samsung Plans to Sue Apple as Soon as iPhone 5 Arrives [REPORT]
Although the next generation of Apple‘s iPhone hasn’t yet been released, and no details about the device have been given, Samsung already plans to try to ban its sales in Korea, the Korea Times reports citing unnamed industry sources.
The legal battle between the two companies has been raging for months, with Apple managing to ban the sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab as well as some variants of the Galaxy S smartphone in several countries, including the Netherlands and Australia.
The companies also sued each other in Korea: Apple on the grounds of Samsung copying the iPhone and iPad product range, while Samsung’s countersuit has been more technology-based.
“For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents. We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights,” said a senior Samsung executive.
For now, Apple is winning the patent lawsuit war, but the next generation iPhone is one of the most anticipated gadgets of the year. If Samsung should manage to delay its launch — even only in Korea — it would be a nasty setback for Apple.

Who’s Steve Jobs?
Steven Paul “Steve” Jobs (born February 24, 1955) is an American business magnate and inventor. He is co-founder, chairman of the board, and former chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Jobs also previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney. He was credited in the 1995 movie Toy Story as an executive producer.
In the late 1970s, Jobs, with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Mike Markkula, and others, designed, developed, and marketed one of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers, the Apple II series. (Reuters) – Silicon Valley legend Steve Jobs on Wednesday resigned as chief executive of Apple Inc in a stunning move that ended his 14-year reign at the technology giant he co-founded in a garage.
Apple shares dived as much as 7 percent in after-hours trade after the pancreatic cancer survivor and industry icon, who has been on medical leave for an undisclosed condition since January 17, announced he will be replaced by COO and longtime heir apparent Tim Cook.
Analysts do not expect Jobs’ resignation — which had long been foreseen — to derail the company’s fabled product-launch roadmap, including possibly a new iPhone in September and a third iteration of the iPad tablet in 2012.
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come,” he said in a brief letter announcing his resignation.
The 55-year-old CEO had briefly emerged from his medical leave in March to unveil the latest version of the iPad and later to attend a dinner hosted by President Barack Obama for technology leaders in Silicon Valley.
Jobs’ often-gaunt appearance has sparked questions about his health and his ability to continue at Apple.
“I will say to investors: don’t panic and remain calm, it’s the right thing to do. Steve will be chairman and Cook is CEO,” said BGC Financial analyst Colin Gillis.
Apple shares slid to $357.40 in extended trading after a brief halt. They had gained 0.7 percent to close at $376.18 on the Nasdaq.
Analysts again expressed confidence in the Apple bench, headed by longtime company No. 2 and supply-chain maven Cook.
“Investors are very comfortable with Tim Cook even though Jobs has been a driver of innovation and clearly an Apple success. Tim has shown Apple can still outperform extremely well when he’s been acting as CEO,” said Cross Research analyst Shannon Cross.
“I don’t know if it’s a health issue. I don’t know if it is a shock. Most likely it was going to happen at some point. Why today versus another day? I don’t know.”

SAN FRANCISCO: Steve Jobs, the mind behind the iPhone, iPad and other devices that turned Apple Inc. into one of the world’s most powerful companies, resigned as the company’s CEO Wednesday, saying he can no longer handle the job.
The move appears to be the result of an unspecified medical condition for which he took an indefinite leave from his post in January. Apple’s chief operating officer, Tim Cook, has been named CEO.
In a letter addressed to Apple’s board and the “Apple community,” Jobs said he “always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”
Apple said Jobs was elected board chairman and Cook is becoming a member of its board.

Apple announced that the iPad 2 will be coming to Malaysia and Singapore this Friday, 29 April. Other availability countries also includes Hong Kong, India, Israel, Korea, Macau, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey and UAE.
Yup, finally iPad 2 here! Wanted to get an iPad but waited for iPad 2 since then. Should I get it?
iPad 2 Arrives in Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore & Eight Other Countries This Week
iPad 2 will be available for sale on 29th April 2011, Friday and expected to start at 9am while the Apple online store starts earlier at 1am.

Will you be one of them who queuing up for the new iPad 2 this coming Friday? My advise is NO! Don’t waste your time queuing up. Why?
1) If you are working, you need to apply for leave.
2) Need to start queuing very early maybe 6am? Or maybe some even over night or camp there?
3) There’s no discount of special offer stated till now for the early bird buyer.
4) You may end up empty handed without the iPad 2 as there will be a quota set for daily iPad 2 sales.
5) They might be some iPad 2 already reserved for the pre-order ppl and there will be less unit available?
6) Ended up just waste your leave, waste your time, waste your energy?
7) It will be the same if you get it after the launching period and not fighting with others? You can just order from Apple Store with free shipping and engraving too!
If you think all the above is nothing to you then by all means go ahead and queue and grab your iPad 2 and be a happy Apple customer! =)
