Have you heard of Plan B? When I first heard this suggestion from a friend and I was thinking we don’t even have a Plan A, how come there’s so fast a Plan B? Lolz… It’s actually a restaurant in Bangsar Village I. Haha… What a good name for a restaurant right?

Plan B is one of the flagship cafes under The BIG GROUP which consists of Ben’s (KLCC & Pavillion), T Forty Two, Bistro 42, Canoodling, Ben’s General Food Store, Tate and Rice Taurant. I have tried Ben’s General Food Store in BSC too.

Plan B‘s modern Aussie-meets-New York-deli menu boasts hearty breakfasts, contemporary salads, wholesome sandwiches made with freshly baked breads; pastas, and a variety of rustic cakes and desserts.

Plan B offers a lot of varieties such as American breakfast sets, varieties of pasta, healthy salads, desserts and cakes. I tell you, it’s really yummy!

The overall dining experience could be better. The food, drinks, desserts are really good, but the service is a NO NO! Ordered an extra drink need to keep reminding for at least 4 times and took about an hour to reach! Worst part is they charged double for that extra drinks! Please please get the service right and get the staffs trained!

Had a chance to taste this Korean food at Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant at Solaris Mont Kiara. I tell you even they are only selling 1 kind of main dish, Dak-Galbi (닭갈비), which is chicken, be it spicy or non spicy, it’s really awesome!

Uncle Jang serves Dak-Galbi (닭갈비) also romanized dalk galbi, is a popular South Korean dish generally made by stir-frying marinated diced chicken in a gochujang (chili pepper paste) based sauce, and sliced cabbage, sweet potato, scallions, onions and tteok (rice cake) together on a hot plate. It is a local specialty food for the city of Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, where dak galbi originates. Because of its origin, the dish is also called Chuncheon dak galbi.

It is said that dak galbi appeared after the late 1960s as an inexpensive anju (food that is eaten while drinking) in small taverns, on the outskirts of the city to replace the rather expensive gui dishes which are grilled over charcoal. The dish has spread to the main districts of Chuncheon, where the livestock industry thrives and soldiers who serve their military service frequently visit on leave.

It is also a popular dish for university students who are on a low budget, as dak galbi is relatively cheap and served in abundance. It earned the nickname “commoners’ galbi” or “university student’s galbi” back in the 1970s.

The city of Chuncheon has held an annual autumn festival dedicated to dak galbi since 2005.

Dak-Galbi (닭갈비) in spicy RM 22 per portion and normal Rm 19 per portion, minimum order is 2 person portion. We ordered two portion in spicy but told them less spicy but in the end also it was damn spicy and it taste awesome even it burnt our lips a little and “bengkak” like two sausages! Haha.

Dak-Galbi order to eat.
1) Choose and Order hot spicy or normal spicy as your taste. (Tip. You can order mixed-flavour.)

2) Choice and Order your Additional Dishes (Sari)
(Add dishes: Mushroom, Noodles, Udon, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Cake)
Just wait for around 10 minutes.

3) At first, Enjoy the rice cake and then ckicken with vegetables. (You can also wrap the dak galbi with vege + kimchi + onions for extra kicks too!)

4) After finishing 2/3 of your meal order fried rice.

You could also order other side dishes to taste it together with the Dak-Galbi (닭갈비).

See so red hot spicy right? Yummy!

You can opt to cook for yourself too!

We order extra soup, Dak-gye (Spicy Chicken Soup) RM10. It’s worth the price!

About finishing 2/3 of the meal we order rice and fried it together with the left over Dak-Galbi (닭갈비). The fried rice is awesome with Dak-Galbi (닭갈비)!!

I saw this news and went to a mamak that bearing the logo of 1Malaysia and thinking to try my luck for the 1Malaysia People’s Menu which only cost RM3 for the rice with chicken + drinks but my total bill is RM6.80 for that.

My other friend’s lunch. Look at the price, even just 1 portion of Timun + 1 portion of Fried Potato is already RM3.50 and it’s without drink!

74. The Government will undertake measures to ease rising costs and prices as well as reduce the burden of the rakyat, as follows:

First: Increase the number of Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) nationwide in 2012. KR1M offers 250 types of 1Malaysia products, comprising consumer goods which are up to 40% cheaper. In view of the overwhelming response, the Government plans to open an additional 85 units in 2012 with an allocation of RM40 million;

Third: Extend and promote the Menu Rakyat 1Malaysia which offers popular menu sets at reasonable prices with a maximum of RM2 for breakfast and RM4 for lunch. Currently, more than 700 food operators are participating and this will be extended to 3,000 operators by end-2012. To further expand this initiative, the Government encourages all cafeteria operators in Government offices* and the private sector to implement the Menu Rakyat 1Malaysia.

Thumbs up for low-cost meal

KUALA LUMPUR: The campaign for the 1Malaysia People’s Menu has received overwhelming response from restaurants.

According to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, there were now 1,004 restaurants taking part in the programme as at Oct 14.

“We were supposed to achieve the target of 1,000 restaurants by December, but we achieved it three months earlier,” he told a press conference after a lunch with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at Restoran Ukhwah in Lorong Medan Tuanku yesterday.

“The Prime Minister came just to eat. He wanted to taste the food eaten by ordinary folk. He also wanted to find out whether the lunch menu served at RM4 and breakfast at RM2 under the programme were really of quality,” he added.

Paying less for more: Najib smiling as he pays for his meal at Restoran Ukhwah in Lorong Medan Tuanku, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

Ismail Sabri said Najib’s lunch experience at the restaurant also proved wrong the perception of some quarters that cheap food at the eateries were of low quality.

He added that in the peninsula, the restaurants could offer breakfast at a maximum of RM2 and lunch at RM4. In Sabah and Sarawak, it’s RM2.50 for breakfast and RM5 for lunch.

Ismail Sabri urged more restaurant operators to take part in the programme and offer food at affordable prices while helping people reduce their financial burden.

Restoran Ukhwah serves a RM1 breakfast menu that includes teh tarik, roti canai and a piece of kuih while the RM3 lunch menu includes a plate of rice with meat and one vegetable dish and a syrup drink.

Asked how the restaurant could maintain its profit at such rates, Ukhwah Cooperatives president Datuk Rahim Baba said they carried out volume selling while offering other menus at regular prices.

Regular customer Ramlee Salleh, 76, said he ate at the restaurant with his wife Zaleha Salleh, 63, and grandson daily to reduce their financial burden.

Ramlee, who has two wives, said he earns RM700 a month as a petition writer and gets a RM400 pension.

“But it is still not enough for us and I sometimes just eat bread,” he added.

Najib gives thumbs-up to restaurant’s 1Malaysia People’s Menu

KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today praised the taste and quality of the food served at a restaurant participating in the 1Malaysia People’s Menu programme.

The prime minister expressed his satisfaction after spending almost half an hour, enjoying lunch of rice with ayam masak merah, ayam masak kicap, daging goreng, fried taugeh and papadom at Restoran Ukhwah in Lorong Medan Tuanku, here.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who accompanied Najib, said: “The prime minister came just to eat….he wanted to taste the food eaten by ordinary folk.

“He also wanted to find out whether the lunch menu served at RM4 and breakfast at RM2 under the programme were really of quality.”

He said Najib’s lunch experience at the restaurant also proved wrong the perception of some quarters that cheap food at eateries participating in the programme were of low quality.

“The ministry is always monitoring for the quality of food served…the prime minister praised the food served just now, which he said was delicious and of quality.

“I think the prime minister was very happy to taste what the ordinary people eat on a daily basis and it also shows his concern for the people’s welfare,” Ismail Sabri said.

The 1Malaysia People’s Menu programme was launched on July 7, aimed at lessening the people’s daily expenses while enabling them to enjoy breakfast at the ceiling price of RM2 and lunch at the maximum of RM4.

Ismail Sabri said the programme had received encouraging response with the target of 1,000 restaurants by the year-end achieved earlier when 1,004 participated in the programme nationwide.

Of the total, Perak has recorded the highest number with 152, followed by Selangor (137), Terengganu (123), Kedah (104), Pahang (103), Sarawak (64), Penang (61), Johor and Sabah (52), Kuala Lumpur (46), Kelantan (41), Negeri Sembilan (34), Melaka (18), Perlis (12), Labuan (3) and Putrajaya (2).
Ismail Sabri said for public convenience, the ministry would advertise the list of the participating eateries in the newspapers tomorrow.

He hoped more eateries would participate in the programme but the condition is that they must served balanced meals. — Bernama

I love to eat Pork Noodles 猪肉粉, this AH OR Chu Yuk Fun 槟城(啊OR)猪肉粉 @ Sunway Mentari was recommended by my buddy and I finally got a chance to try it out! It’s awesome as the pork is really nice, soft and tender!

Check out the ingredient! All the pork is damn nice! Awesome!

Homemaker shocked over ‘fake eggs’ find

GEORGE TOWN: A woman who bought a tray of eggs in Pulau Tikus had a shock when she found them to be “fake eggs”.

Consumers Association of Penang president S.M. Mohamed Idris said the housewife had brought the eggs to his office after finding something fishy when she tried to cook them.

“She told us that the eggs did not smell like real eggs and were tasteless. It was also of unusual shapes and larger than real eggs.

“The fake egg also had a rougher surface than the genuine one.

“When cracked, there was no sign of chalaza, the structure inside the egg that keeps the yolk in place.

“The fake egg white and yolk quickly mixed together, unlike that of real eggs,” Idris said.

The fake egg yolk (left) is more yellowish than that of a normal egg.

He said after boiling the egg and cutting it open, the egg yolk appeared to be more “yellowish” than that of a normal egg.

Idris said an e-mail widely circulated among the public in Penang had claimed that fake eggs which were common in China, were full of chemicals and sold at lower prices.

Idris also said it would be very hard to tell the difference between fake eggs and genuine ones as both looked almost identical.

“Try to look out for the weird shapes,” he said, adding that his staff members had bought more eggs from the shop frequented by the woman and found them to be “fake”.

A tray of 30 real eggs costs around RM10.50. The fake eggs cost RM11.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism enforcement chief M. Guna Selan said his office had not received any such complaint.

Beware u guys and gals!

During a recent raid on a wholesale centre in Guangzhou city, the capital of China ‘s Guangdong province, a large quantity of fake eggs was seized.

Their wholesale price is 0.15 yuan (S$0.03) each – half the price of a real egg.

Consumers have a hard time telling a genuine egg from a fake one. This is good news for unscrupulous entrepreneurs, who are even conducting three-day courses in the production of artificial eggs for less than S$150. A reporter with Hong Kong-based Chinese magazine East Week enrolled in one such course.

To create egg white, the instructor – a woman in her 20s – used assorted ingredients such as gelatin, an unknown powder, benzoic acid, coagulating material and even alum, which is normally used for industrial processes.

For egg yolk, some lemon-yellow colouring powder is mixed to a liquid and the concoction stirred. The liquid is then poured into a round-shaped plastic mould and mixed with so-called ‘magic water’, which contains calcium chloride.

This gives the ‘yolk’ a thin outer membrane, firming it up. The egg is then shaped with a mould. The shell is not forgotten. Paraffin wax and an unidentified white liquid are poured onto the fake egg, which is then left to dry.

The artificial egg can be fried sunny-side up or steamed. Although bubbles appear on the white of the egg, those who have tasted it say the fake stuff tastes very much like the real thing.

But experts warn of the danger of eating fake eggs. Not only do they not contain any nutrients, a Hong Kong Chinese University professor warned that long-term consumption of alum could cause dementia

To make the egg white, various ingredients, including a powder and alum, are mixed together.

The ‘yolk’ is shaped in the round mould. ‘Magic water’ containing calcium chloride is used.

Hardy shells are formed by pouring paraffin wax and a liquid onto the egg, which are then left to dry.

I have heard a lot of my friends mention about this Meng Kee Char Siew @ Glenmarie and was told that this was the best Char Siew ever, besides the one I tried at Restoran Famous Seremban Favorites @ Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya! Finally I had a chance to try that Meng Kee char siew one fine day!

The special made chili is good too!

What I don’t like is the cucumber! It’s too thick lo… should cut it into smaller pieces?
