Zune is an entertainment platform and portable media player made by Microsoft. The Zune entertainment software platform and supporting products designed and marketed by Microsoft include the Zune Software, the video component of Xbox 360, Zune devices, Microsoft Kin Phones, Windows Phone 7 devices, and the Zune website.
The Zune software is the tool you need to sync your music, videos, and pictures between your computer and your phone. You also need it to get any updates. It will help you to organized your media files for your Windows Phone 7 device.

If you use Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP SP3, a little window will pop up when you connect your phone to your computer using a cable, and you can follow those instructions to install the Zune software.

If you already have a version of the Zune software on your computer that you used to sync with your Zune player, you’ll still need to install the latest version. Otherwise, Zune won’t be able to sync with your phone.
Notes
If you have a Mac, you can use Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac to sync files between your phone and your computer. A pre-release (beta), English-only version of Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac is available from the Microsoft Download Center.
