Quite disappointed as I thought at least world no.1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei could have beat Lin Dan and double Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong could deliver another point too but it’s down at 3-0 and China was the Champion of LI NING 2009 SUDIRMAN CUP. In the LI NING 2009 SUDIRMAN CUP Finals, China beat Korea 3-0, China was well prepared and just too strong to be defeated. Guess Malaysian players have to work hard and train even harder for the world meet this August in India.

Lin Dan and Cai Yun-Haifeng snuff out Malaysian hopes in semis
By RAJES PAUL
PETALING JAYA: China hit Malaysia where it hurts most en route to outclassing our shuttlers 3-0 in the semi-finals of the Sudirman Cup mixed team world badminton championship in Guangzhou yesterday.
Malaysia had been banking on world No. 1 men’s singles shuttler Lee Chong Wei and men’s doubles ace Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong to steal the points against the six-time champions but the trio collapsed when it mattered most.
Expectations were high on Chong Wei to spark a great fightback after the defeat of the mixed doubles pair of Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Wong Pei Tty in the opening match of the semi-final tie.
Fairuzizuan-Pei Tty handed China a 1-0 lead after going down tamely 11-21, 14-21 to All-England champions He Hanbin-Yu Yang in just 34 minutes.

Chong Wei went in with hopes of levelling the tie but found the super fit Lin Dan too hot to handle, going down 16-21, 16-21 in a 56-minute battle.
The signs were all there that it was going to be the muscular Lin Dan’s day when the fired-up Chinese raced to a 5-0 lead in the first game.
A frustrated Chong Wei tried to step up a gear but sloppy attacking play prevented him from keeping pace with Lin Dan.
The second game saw better aggression from Chong Wei but Lin Dan’s court control was so solid that there was nothing Chong Wei could do.
“I gave my best but I made simple mistakes today. But I am satisfied to have given him a good fight,” said Chong Wei yesterday.
“But I will be more prepared when I meet him at the World Championships (in India in August).”
It was then up to Kien Keat-Boon Heong to save the tie for Malaysia but the duo went down fighting 21-19, 15-21, 21-23 to Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng in a 66-minute battle.
Swiss Open champions Kien Keat-Boon Heong got off to a superb start but, as the game progressed, they lived dangerously before winning the first game 21-19.
The Malaysians gave their best in the next two games but could not crack the Chinese pair.
And with the comeback win, Cai Yun-Haifeng proved that the men’s doubles is no longer their weakest link in the team.
With the tie already decided, the two dead matches – Wong Mew Choo versus Wang Yihan and Chin Eei Hui-Ng Hui Lin versus Du Jing-Yu Yang – were not played.
National chief coach Rashid Sidek said they had expected to steal at least one point in the tie yesterday.
“Our hope was on the men’s singles and doubles. But Lin Dan came really prepared to face Chong Wei today,” said Rashid in a telephone interview.
“Lin Dan had better quality in his game. Chong Wei has to cut down on his mistakes. Chong Wei was better in the long rallies but Lin Dan held the advantage with his short explosive returns.
“We also had high hopes on the men’s doubles. They had the chance and played well but they were just not good enough to beat the Chinese pair.”
China will take on South Korea in the final. The Koreans made short work of Indonesia with a 3-1 win in the other semi-final.
Last month I was called and ask to be a guest for Astro Awani to talk about cashless society (masyrakat tanpa tunai). My first experience on a Live TV Show. It was a good experience and not bad but need to talk in Malay is a bit difficult for me. So got stuck in between, haha.
Pros
=====
1) Cashless society is good coz its convenience, ease of use and safe.
- jimat masa, masa = wang!
- no need to bring coins.
2) Transaction history
We can keep record of our spending and at the end of the month we could do a review on how we could reduce the cost. Keeping track of what we spent on is a wise idea to not waste money in the oncoming shopping spree.
If we have kids we could give them one each so would could control them on the spending and keep an eye on their activities.
It’s like we are using our own money, but paying with a card instead of money, a move towards a cashless society. In addition to that, since we are using our own money, we do not incur debt nor will there be any interest rates levied on overdue payments. We could block the card from any further transactions. Thus, it is safe if we are thinking to use the debit card or the prepaid card.
3) Safety & protection
If robbery happened, we could just make a call to the bank to on hold all the cards, whereby if it’s cash then it’s gone.
4 ) Reward points
So while we spend, we could earn in a way too.
Cons
=====
Reliability – if the terminal or card screws up you can’t buy stuff.
Privacy – your bank and processing gateway have access to all your transactions.
Flexibility – hard to split a bill or lend cash to another person.
Surcharges – the gateways may impose a transaction fee to bear the cost of the system.
1. Not many merchants are providing these services like mobile payment systems (using mobile phone to make payment thru sms)
2. Transaction fees incurred by the merchants will be transferred to the users – users have to pay slightly extra than the original cost. Like parking using Touch n Go system – extra 10%.
3. Not everyone can afford the payment instrument like credit card – not everyone are eligible to apply.
4. Consumers still prefer the traditional ways of making payment….
5. Everyone needs to be on the same payment platform (don’t end up with different systems again with different card)
6. Re-use and don’t re-invent. Current credit cards are capable. Don’t introduce new cards ..
7. Cost passed to consumer … I don’t agree with that point…. if the system is widely used , the cost should be minimal. Can always ask for government control over this like petrol price.

About 300 stray dogs were rounded up by Pulau Ketam residents and deported to an isolated island to fend for themselves.
Over half of them are already dead and the remaining ones may not live long. A rescue mission is being mounted and your help is needed.
The residents of Pulau Ketam sent some 300 stray dogs to exile on a remote island where the harsh conditions almost certainly guarantee a horrible death. Of the 300 dogs sent there, more than three-quarters are presumed to be already dead. I traveled to the island with Sabrina Yeap of Furry Friends Farm and managed to save only one dog on this reconnaissance trip. We did see several other starving and dying dogs along the mangrove shore.
I am mounting an urgent rescue mission to capture and transport the remaining survivors back to Sabrina’s Furry Friends Farm animal shelter. But time is running out and there might be only skeletons and carcasses left to collect on our next trip. Boat hire is expensive there. It is a tourist area and it has already cost me a few hundred ringgit for boat hire alone, so far. The rescued dogs cannot be transported on the regular ferries.
Almost nobody will lift a finger to help without a fee. This is understandable. The locals are already shaking their heads in disbelief that there are outsiders who want to save the animals they so casually discarded. Instead of pointing fingers and antagonising them, we need their co-operation to help save the unfortunate creatures. In the process, we also hope to educate the islanders on better treatment of animals. It would be an impossible mission if we didn’t win their hearts.
If you are unable to help directly, please help by forwarding this appeal to other compassionate folks who you feel might be able to make some monetary contributions.
Apart from boat hire, we need money to buy cages, to pay people to help catch them, to hire land transport to send the rescued animals to veterinary clinics, pay for vet fees, send the recovered ones to the shelter and to feed and house them for life. I can go on!

Dogs run deeper into island on seeing rescuers
By EDWARD RAJENDRA
PORT KLANG: The dogs abandoned on an uninhabited island by Pulau Ketam residents were so frightened at the sight of a big group of people that they fled deeper into the island.
A five-member team from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and nine newsmen came to the island off Pulau Selat Kering yesterday on a mission to rescue the dogs.
“Only two dogs were captured. The others just ran off,” said SPCA spokesman Jacinta Johnson.
She said they brought food to coax the dogs towards the shoreline but due to the incoming tide, they refused to approach the relief team.
The lost dogs:Rescuers carrying the two dogs from Pulau Tengah Wednesday where a total of 400 dogs were left there to fend for themselves.
“However, our operation is still meaningful as it has given us a better idea of the island and the movement of the dogs there.
“We won’t bring the media along in our next relief effort,” she said.
The team placed dog food and drinking water on the island before leaving the place.
A month ago, Pulau Ketam residents trapped about 400 dogs and transported them to Pulau Tengah to ease the stray dog population on their island.
The dogs, which lived below the stilt houses, would come up to the wooden platform during high tide.
Pulau Ketam village head Cha Keng Lee said most residents felt that the move to send the animals to the nearby island would resolve the stray dog problem.
The uninhabited island would also offer more space to the dogs, he said.
“Our aim was not to be cruel to the dogs. But we strongly feel that the stray dog problem must be solved. When the dogs come up to the platform, they defecate all over. Sometimes, they would also bite the children,” he said.
Recently a lot of ppl talking about SWINE FLU – H1N1, so I found something useful and thought of sharing with all of you. Better be safe than sorry. Spend a few minutes to read and tell your loved one about the facts and things that you know could save them.
Pic : Taken from wikipedia
WHAT IS SWINE FLU ?
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses (H1N1 subtype) that causes regular outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen.
Swine flu viruses have been reported to spread from person-to-person, but in the past, this transmission was limited and not sustained beyond three people.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. In the past, severe illness (pneumonia and respiratory failure) and deaths have been reported with swine flu infection in people. Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.
The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of seasonal flu in humans and may include:
- Fever (greater than 100°F or 37.8°C)
- Sore throat
- Cough
- Stuffy nose
- Chills
- Headache and body aches
- Fatigue
HOW DOES SWINE FLU SPREAD ?
Spread of this swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is thought to be happening in the same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing of people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.
MINIMISING THE RISK OF AN EPIDEMIC
- Culling – killing large numbers of infected and potentially
infected animals
- Quarantine – putting infected farms in quarantine
- Vaccinating birds against the virus – remains controversial and contentious. Indonesia launched poultry vaccination in July 2004 and Thailand is considering the same measure
- Latest normal flu vaccine – for people involved in culling operations to minimize the risk of being infected by both bird flu and human flu simultaneously
HOW CAN SOMEONE WITH THE FLU INFECT SOMEONE ELSE ?
Infected people may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 7 or more days after becoming sick. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick.
WHAT SHOULD I DO TO KEEP FROM GETTING THE FLU ?
First and most important: wash your hands. Try to stay in good general health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. Try not touch surfaces that may be contaminated with the flu virus. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Avoid live animal markets, poultry and pig farms in affected countries
- Always maintain high levels of personal hygiene, especially before and after food preparation and in-out of toilets. Regular wash your hands
- Cook pork thoroughly
- Do not consume half-done pork
- While in an affected region, seek immediate medical attention if you develop influenza-like symptoms. (High Fever, body pain, coughing and red nose)
TRAVEL HEALTH
Spreading Country as on April 27, 2009 are ; Mexico, US, New Zealand, Israel, China
- WHO does not recommend any travel restrictions to areas experiencing outbreaks, including countries, which have reported, associated cases of human infection.
- WHO does not, at present recommend the routine screening of travelers coming from affected areas.
WHAT CAN I DO TO PROTECT MYSELF FROM GETTING SICK ?
There is no vaccine available right now to protect against swine flu. There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza. Take these everyday steps to protect your health:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people
IS IT SAFE IF I EAT PORK ?
Swine influenza viruses are not spread by food. You cannot get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork products is safe.
THERE ARE EVERYDAY ACTIONS PEOPLE CAN TAKE TO STAY HEALTHY
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also
effective
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO KEEP FROM SPREADING THE VIRUS THROUGH COUGHING OR SNEEZING ?
If you are sick, limit your contact with other people as much as possible. Do not go to work , stay at home or in your hotel room . Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick. Put your used tissue in the waste basket. Cover your cough or sneeze if you do not have a mask. Then, clean your hands, and do so every time you cough or sneeze
TRAVEL ADVISORY
DO YOU REALLY NEED TO TRAVEL?
Before any travel to affected area

- Practice careful and frequent hand washing
- Consume thoroughly cooked food
- Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms occur After your return
- Monitor your health for 10 days
- If you become ill with high fever consult a doctor immediately.
FOOD SAFETY ISSUES
- Cook food thoroughly
- Follow good hygienic practices

- With sick people. Keep safe distance
- Stay home when you are sick
- If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands
- Cover your mouth and nose
- Cover mouth and nose with tissue when coughing or sneezing
- Clean your hands
- Frequent hand washing will protect you from germs
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
- Germs often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I GET SICK ?
In children emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:
- Fast breathing or trouble breathing
- Bluish skin color
- Not drinking enough fluids
- Not waking up or not interacting
- Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
- Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
- Fever with a rash
In adults, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
- Sudden dizziness
- Confusion
- Severe or persistent vomiting
IS THERE A HUMAN VACCINE TO PROTECT FROM SWINE INFLUENZA ?
There are no vaccines that contain the current swine influenza virus causing illness in humans. It is not known whether current human seasonal influenza vaccines can provide any protection. Influenza viruses change very quickly. It is important to develop a vaccine against the currently circulating virus strain for it to provide maximum protection to the vaccinated people. This is why WHO needs access to as many viruses as possible in order to select the most appropriate candidate vaccine virus.
WHAT DRUGS ARE AVAILABLE FOR TREATMENT ?
Antiviral drugs for seasonal influenza are available in some countries and effectively prevent and treat the illness. There are two classes of such medicines, 1) adamantanes (amantadine and remantadine), and 2) inhibitors of influenza neuraminidase (oseltamivir and zanamivir).
What precautions are in place in Malaysia?
- The Health Ministry’s operations room in Putrajaya has started a 24-hour monitoring of the situation. The public can call 03-8881 0200/300 for enquiries.
- Those returning from Latin American countries and found to have flu-like symptoms will be quarantined.
- Health Ministry officials are conducting health screenings on passengers arriving from the United States.
- Thermal scanners will be placed at international airports to speed up the screening process for A (H1N1) flu.
- Public and private medical practitioners have been instructed to report to the district health office any patient with influenza-like illnesses or severe pneumonia symptoms and who had travelled to the affected countries after April 17.
- Owners of the 797 pig farms nationwide have been ordered to immediately contact the nearest Veterinary Services Department office or the Animal Disease Control Centre if their workers or animals show symptoms linked to the A (H1N1) flu.
Where can I get more information?
For more information, go to the Health Ministry (www.moh.gov.my) or call the Ministry’s hotline at (03) 8881-0200/300.
