KUALA LUMPUR: The number portability system for cellular phones will be available by the first quarter of next year, Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik said.

He said the system allowed mobile phone users to retain their network provider number, even if they changed service providers.

Dr Lim was speaking to reporters after launching the MiTV’s new brand name, U Mobile, and its 3G network 018 here yesterday.

The system was supposed to be implemented by the end of this year but the ministry had to postpone it, as some telcos were not prepared for it, added Dr Lim.

“The system will include 015, the network that allows users to make phone calls through the Internet,” he said.

He also said he had ordered Telekom Malaysia to come up with a proposal to provide fibre optic broadband connection.

It’s finally here after long wait… but still need to wait till first quarter of next year in order to do so. So you can having a 012 (Maxis/Hotlink) number but using DIGI’s services so that your friends, colleagues, enemies still can reach you by the old number and the number it’s your identity =) this is great. So that you won’t lost contact.

Anyway stay tune for this and finger cross.
