Annabelle’s Birth Story

My baby girl is here! My baby daughter was born on 27th October 2016, weighing 2.44kg. The labor pain was much intense but the process was much faster. I figured it’s because my muscles, tissues and bones have already stretched out, making it easier for the baby to descend this round. This is the birth story of my baby girl, I hope you’ll enjoy reading it and find it useful.

Me at 37 weeks pregnant

Anyone who’s been pregnant would agree that the final weeks of pregnancy is the toughest. Don’t get me wrong, I loved being pregnant and feeling her tiny kicks inside me but after 9 months, I got exhausted and simply can’t wait to meet my baby girl. I’ve been experiencing regular Braxton Hicks contractions for quite some time and am just waiting for signs to go into labor naturally.

On 27th October 2016, I hit 39 weeks. I woke up when I felt a light flow of water in between my thighs. It took a while for me to realize that my water broke and I quickly get The Husband to wake up. Not long after,I started feeling intense pain in my stomach, accompanied by pelvic pain.

I quickly washed up, put on sanitary pad since water was flowing out, double check my hospital bag and left home at about 4am. Thank goodness traffic was smooth and we reached Sunway Medical Centre at 4.15am. We went straight to the delivery suite and I quickly changed into delivery gown.

I was then strapped to an elastic belt around my abdomen to monitor my baby’s heartbeat and contraction. The nurse checked my blood pressure and dilation. I was already 7-8cm dilated, with contractions starting to kick in harder.

I requested for epidural but my gynaecologist, Dr Chia Chee Peng wouldn’t let me take epidural as I’m already almost fully dilated and asked me to use the laughing gas instead. So, I could only focus on my breathing and try my very best to relax my body. At about 5am, Dr Chia checked on me and informed that I have fully dilated. I was taught how to push and I was asked to push when contractions kick in.

After a couple of pushes, I got tired and was about to give up when Dr Chia told me that baby’s head was out to encourage me to continue pushing and so I started to push a little harder and, Annabelle was out at 5.27am.

We did delayed cord clamping and after a while, The Husband get to cut her umbilical cord. Moments later, I heard her first cry. Dr Chia then started delivering my placenta, gave me an anesthesia jab at my thighs before sewing up my episiotomy cut.

Annabelle was placed on my body to promote bonding between the mother and the baby. When she was placed in my arms, I immediately feel that all the pain and sleepless nights were all worth it.

So here she is, my baby two Annabelle Kong.

Coincidently my son Aiden was also born on 27th October, so both my precious child share the same birthday :)

I feel so so guilty for not being able to celebrate Aiden's birthday as I had to stay in hospital :( but The Husband comforted me and told me that I gave Aiden the best birthday gift ever- a baby sister!
